What are the company’s core values, and how do they come to life?

Canopy Creative’s core values are centered around innovation, collaboration, environmental sustainability, and cultural respect. These values come to life through our work in immersive technology, where we push the boundaries of VR, AR, and AI to create groundbreaking 3D art and custom software. Our collaborative approach with clients ensures that we are not just service providers, but partners in bringing their visions to life. Our commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in our carbon-neutral website design, demonstrating our responsibility towards nature. There are some misconceptions about the business that are addressed below:

Complexity and Accessibility: People often think that interactive media and 3D art are too complex and inaccessible for average businesses. However, we strive to make these technologies approachable and applicable for a diverse range of clients. Cost Concerns: There’s a perception that such cutting-edge technology is prohibitively expensive. While we are dealing with advanced technology, we work to provide cost-effective solutions tailored to each client’s budget and needs. Usability and Practicality: Some may view 3D art and interactive media as merely aesthetic. We focus on creating solutions that are not only visually impressive but also functional and practical for real-world applications.

The workforce is the heart of every organization. How can leaders build a more inclusive culture?

“Inclusive culture” to me means creating an environment where diverse perspectives and backgrounds are not only welcomed but are seen as essential to our creativity and innovation. It’s about ensuring that everyone feels valued and has the opportunity to contribute fully. To become a more inclusive leader, I’ve focused on active listening, understanding different viewpoints, and encouraging open dialogue within the team. We’ve also implemented policies and practices that promote diversity in hiring and project management. Building an inclusive culture is an ongoing journey, and we’re committed to making Canopy Creative a place where everyone can thrive and bring their whole selves to work. Apart from that, I resonate with the popular sentiment that it’s lonely at the top. Constantly striving to push forward, especially when you place high value on your team’s morale, fair compensation, and clear communication, can be draining. It’s challenging at times to remember to prioritize my own well-being amidst these responsibilities. As always, I’m focusing on improving self-care and finding balance.

These days, the world seems constantly on the verge of a meltdown. First was the pandemic, then the harsh realities of climate change. Following that, there was a war and a cost-of-living crisis. What can leaders do?

In the evolving role of leadership, adaptability and resilience are crucial for thriving amidst change and challenges. A leader must also be technologically savvy, staying abreast of and utilizing emerging industry-relevant technologies. Emotional intelligence, encompassing empathy, self-awareness, and relationship management, is vital for effective team leadership. A strategic vision is needed to foresee market trends and guide the company’s long-term trajectory. Clear, persuasive communication is essential for motivating teams and stakeholders. Inclusive leadership fosters a diverse and accepting work environment, while financial acumen is key to managing the company’s fiscal health. Outside of my work at Canopy Creative, where we focus on digital realms, I immerse myself in hands-on creative projects like manufacturing and fabrication, using skills such as 3D printing and painting. For instance, I’m currently crafting a life-size, three-meter-long baby T-Rex skeleton, complete with rust paint and mounted on an ancient Tasmanian eucalyptus base featuring a resin-poured river. It’s purely for enjoyment, though storage can be a challenge! My past projects range from lamps to tables and chairs. This physical creativity is a refreshing contrast to my digital work with the team. In the coming three to five years, the role of a CEO or business leader is poised for substantial transformation, driven by evolving expectations from boards and stakeholders. A significant shift will be the heightened focus on sustainability and social responsibility, requiring the integration of these values into core business strategies. Concurrently, the urgency to lead and innovate in the digital space will intensify, demanding deeper engagement with technology. This will be a big shift in favor of Canopy Creative. Moreover, stakeholder engagement will need to be more transparent and frequent. The most daunting challenge will likely be striking a balance between technological progress and maintaining ethical, sustainable practices, all while ensuring profitability and fostering innovation. These are all things Canopy Creative specializes in helping businesses navigate.

For those aspiring to be CEOs or who are new to the role, it’s crucial to love what you do. Leading a company is a challenging journey, demanding a broad skill set encompassing business acumen, technological savvy, and emotional intelligence. Continuous learning and strong relationship-building within and outside your industry are key. Adaptability in the face of changing business landscapes is essential, as is the ability to balance a clear vision with practical execution. Remembering that effective leadership also involves self-care can be a challenge but is important. When done right, this path can be incredibly rewarding for both you and those around you.

Where does Canopy Creative go from here?

We are focusing on continuous innovation in our core areas of 3D art and software development, especially in emerging technologies like VR and AR. We plan to expand our client base by diversifying into different industry sectors that could benefit from our expertise. Building strategic partnerships and collaborations is key to how we operate with our clients, as we aim to sustainably scale our operations while maintaining our commitment to environmental responsibility and cultural respect. Investing in our team’s growth and development ensures we stay at the forefront of technology and creativity, keeping us agile and adaptable in a rapidly evolving market. Canopy aims to grow in 2024 and beyond, as we have done since its inception in late 2022.
