Daniel Fincham: Revolutionizing addiction recovery

Entrepreneurship entails an underlying responsibility: a responsibility to give back to the community. A purpose-driven innovation that improves one’s life is a dream come true for many entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in society. This requires a transformative leader who can combine compassion and passion for business success. One such leader is Daniel Fincham, the founder and CEO of Recoverlution. Founded by addicts for addicts, Recoverlution’s goal is to shine a light on the positive and transformative power of recovery and how it can change lives for the better. The company supports them throughout their transformative journey and assists them in becoming responsible individuals for their community. With his remarkable venture—Recoverlution— he aims to help the world understand what recovery is while also getting more people into recovery sooner and helping them stay there longer.

Below are the highlights of the interview between PerceptivX and Daniel:

PerceptivX (P): As the first recovery-focused platform in the world, how is Recoverlution addressing a big gap in the recovery market?

Daniel Fincham (D): “Recoverlution is a pioneering digital platform utilizing AI technology to support individuals worldwide in their addiction recovery journeys, offering personalized, comprehensive, and accessible support. Its value proposition lies in providing a dedicated digital home for recovery, offering content, connections, and wellness resources tailored to individuals’ needs, aiming for quicker and sustained recovery. With a motto—We believe recovery should be available to all, anytime, anywhere—we are marching passionately towards success. Recoverlution stands out by integrating and bringing together everything one needs in recovery into one place to create personalized recovery plans, mapping unique personas and behavioral patterns derived from user interactions. This personalized approach distinguishes it from generic solutions on the market. We aim to bridge the gap in addiction recovery by providing accessible technology for lifelong support. The primary focus is to minimize relapse rates and improve the well-being of individuals in recovery globally. Our aim is to revolutionize addiction recovery through innovative AI-driven personalized recovery routes, supporting individuals globally on their unique recovery journeys. Recoverlution has been operational since its inception, six weeks into my personal recovery journey in June 2020. It operates as a digital platform accessible globally without physical locations.”

P: Tell us about your professional journey from firm founding to company growth.

D: “I spent 10+ years at Zmags, a digital experience platform, and left as VP of Customer Success, overseeing teams in the US, UK, and Copenhagen. Then I transitioned to found Recoverlution after experiencing personal recovery needs. The idea stemmed from the absence of a dedicated recovery platform. The name ‘Recoverlution’ combines ‘recovery’ and ‘revolution,’ signifying a transformative approach in the recovery space. Building Recoverlution involved navigating challenges, including team decisions and financial hurdles. The key to success is embracing failures as learning opportunities. I’ve honed resilience, learning, and adapting from setbacks to propel us forward. I discovered that effective funding can be secured by demonstrating the uniqueness and potential impact of your innovation. Establish a clear business plan, showcase traction and user engagement, and network with investors aligned with your mission and values. Initially overlooking the importance of mentorship was a missed opportunity. My advice to every individual is to seek mentors, remain adaptable, and stay true to your purpose while disrupting the industry.”

P: What was your most unexpected lesson in leading for growth?

D: “My success owes itself to the collective dedication of the team, supportive mentors, the recovery community, and the resilience fostered by personal experiences. The most unexpected lesson was realizing that admitting mistakes fosters growth. Embracing transparency and learning from missteps nurtures a culture of growth and resilience within the organization. For upcoming aspiring leaders, I would suggest they engage in daily reflection, seek feedback, and foster a learning mindset to aid in continuous growth. The questions I ask myself include, ‘How can I better support my team? What can I learn from today’s challenges?’”

P: When not at work, what do you do with your time?

D: “Outside work, I’m a father of three young, wonderful children who keep me busy. I’m getting back into my fitness and outdoor activities. I enjoy walking with our dog and love music, doing my best to play the guitar in my free time.

P: Which industry misconceptions and trends have you taken note of?

D: “The misconception is that addiction recovery needs to combine people and technological innovation to be able to address the societal costs at scale. Trends indicate a shift towards AI-driven personalized solutions and greater emphasis on holistic recovery support.

The key risks include funding constraints and evolving technological landscapes. To mitigate, we focus on lean operations, strategic partnerships, and continuous innovation, aligning with industry trends for sustained relevance. Looking forward, we’re excited about the integration of AI into recovery journeys, aiming to further personalize support. Expansion plans include scaling our membership, forging strategic partnerships, and broadening our global impact on addiction recovery. We are very much on course to be the home of online recovery.
